Network of volunteers will help shape the future of archery in Northern Ireland

Following a recent call for expressions of interest, members from across the region stepped forward to contribute their time, expertise and enthusiasm to a series of locally focused working groups.

These groups form an important part of the evolving operating model for archery in Northern Ireland, designed to work more closely with clubs and members while strengthening support at a regional level.

The response to the volunteer recruitment process was positive, with applications received from individuals keen to play an active role in developing the sport. The breadth of experience and passion demonstrated throughout the process highlights the strength of the archery community in Northern Ireland.

Following a shortlisting process based on the skills and experience required for each working group, a number of volunteers have now been successfully appointed. These individuals will work collaboratively to support key priority areas, helping to ensure that archery continues to grow, develop and provide inclusive opportunities for all participants.

The list of working groups and volunteers is as follows:

Competitions & Records/Statistics – Kevin Bloomfield; Graham Patterson; Rob Hall; Laura McKinney (Records)

Coaching & Development – Hazel Campbell; Marty McCullough; Damian Lennon

Volunteer & Community Engagement – Heidi Forrester Williams; Carl Bryer

Judging – Shannon Russell Cowan; John Kane

A collaborative approach for the future

The newly formed working groups will play a vital role in connecting NI/Archery GB more closely with the needs of clubs and archers on the ground. By bringing together volunteers with a wide range of perspectives and expertise, the groups will help to inform decision-making, support delivery, and strengthen the overall infrastructure of the sport in Northern Ireland.

This approach reflects the commitment to building a more collaborative and locally responsive network – one that empowers volunteers and ensures that the sport can thrive at every level.

Further opportunities to get involved
While not all applicants were able to be accommodated within the initial intake of working group members, we are keen to ensure that the enthusiasm shown is not lost.

As the new structure develops, there will be further opportunities for members to get involved. This is expected to include both ongoing roles and more flexible ways to contribute, such as supporting specific tasks, short-term initiatives, or one-off projects linked to the development of archery in Northern Ireland.

We will continue to engage with those who expressed an interest and will be in touch as new opportunities arise.

Thank you to all applicants
From myself and Lisa Wheeler, we would like to thank everyone who took the time to apply. The willingness of members to step forward and support the sport is invaluable and demonstrates a shared commitment to its future success.
